A 60-year-old man from Hampton, Massachusetts sustained multiple injuries when his 2003 Harley Davidson motorcycle was struck by a 2001 Ford F-150 pickup truck. According to a Union Leader news report, the motorcycle crash occurred at 16 Route 125 in Kingston. Officials say the Massachusetts motorcyclist was traveling southbound when a northbound truck turned left in front of him. The motorcyclist suffered head injuries and multiple bone fractures and was transported to a Boston hospital. The three occupants of the truck, including the 20-year-old driver from Groveland, were hospitalized as a precaution. It is unclear if the driver of the truck will face charges for failing to yield while turning left.
According to Massachusetts Law Chapter 89, Section 8: “Any operator intending to turn left, in an intersection, across the path or lane of vehicles approaching from the opposite direction shall, before turning, yield the right-of-way until such time as the left turn can be made with reasonable safety.”
It is common for left-turn accidents to involve motorcycles. They are smaller than passenger vehicles and are easily overlooked. Therefore, drivers who are speeding, distracted, impaired, fatigued, or careless may not even notice a motorcycle until it is too late. When this happens, it is common for the car’s occupants to escape unharmed but for motorcyclists to suffer devastating head injuries, bone fractures, lacerations, sprains, strains, spinal cord damage, or other related injuries.
Victims of Boston motorcycle accidents have the right to seek financial compensation for their injuries. A successful personal injury claim filed against a negligent driver can result in support for all related damages such as medical bills, time away from work, the cost of rehabilitation services, and pain and suffering.
Many riders, however, struggle to receive fair compensation for their losses. To protect your rights, make sure you gather evidence such as photos of the crash site, documentation of your injuries, and contact information from anyone who witnessed the accident. You have the right to pursue compensation for your injuries. It may be in your best interest to contact an experienced Massachusetts personal injury lawyer who will help protect your rights every step of the way.
